Cookies

One cookie, and nothing else.

What a cookie is

A cookie is a small piece of text a website asks your browser to store and send back on later visits, usually so the site can remember something about you between one page and the next. A cookie cannot, by itself, read other files on your device or run programs; what one can do depends entirely on what the website that set it decided to put in it.

The only cookie this website sets

This website sets exactly one cookie: incanto-locale.

  • Purpose: remembers which of the three languages (German, English or Italian) you are reading this site in.
  • Content: a two-letter language code, namely de, en or it, and nothing else.
  • Duration: one year from when it is set.
  • Scope: read only by incanto-olten.ch, never sent to any other site.
  • Consent: because it carries no tracking or profiling function, Swiss law does not require your prior consent before it is set; you are informed of it here, and you can refuse or delete it as described below.

Without it, an address that carries no language in its URL, the home page at incanto-olten.ch itself for instance, is shown in German by default, or in whichever of the other two languages your browser is set to, if it asks for one of them. With the cookie, the site instead shows you the language you last chose, however your browser is configured.

What we do not use

The visitor statistics we keep (Vercel Web Analytics, described in section 3 of our privacy policy) set no cookie and store nothing in your browser, so they add nothing to the list above. Beyond that there is no advertising network, no retargeting pixel, and no social-media tracking cookie of the kind a Facebook or Instagram “Like” button often carries; the Instagram link and the Facebook link on this site are plain links, not embedded widgets, so neither sets anything until you click it and arrive on that service’s own site.

One external resource that is not a cookie

The country-flag icon shown next to the phone field on the reservation form is the one thing on this site loaded from an external address, cdnjs.cloudflare.com, rather than from incanto-olten.ch itself. It sets no cookie of its own; loading it simply discloses your IP address and browser information to Cloudflare, in the same way any request to any website does. See section 8 of our privacy policy for more on this.

Managing and deleting this cookie

Every browser lets you see, block or delete the cookies stored for a given site, usually from its privacy or security settings, under a name such as “Cookies and site data”, “Privacy and security” or similar, depending on the browser and device you use. Deleting incanto-locale does not break anything: the site keeps working exactly as before, and simply chooses your language from your browser’s own settings again until you pick one.
